How much does Etsy take from a sale in 2026?

For a typical US sale with no Offsite Ads, Etsy takes roughly 10–12% of the total order (item price + shipping). The three required fees are: $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee on the full order, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing.

On a $30 item with free shipping: $0.20 + $1.95 + $1.15 = $3.30 in fees. You keep $26.70 — before materials, labor, or shipping labels.

If Etsy's Offsite Ads drove that sale, add another 15% ($4.50) — bringing total fees to $7.80 and your cut down to $22.20. The Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 per order, so high-value orders get some relief. That's why knowing which sales come from ads matters.

💡

One thing most sellers miss: The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping amount the buyer pays — not just the item price. A $6 shipping charge costs you $0.39 extra in transaction fees alone.

Etsy's fees are simple — but they stack fast

New sellers often budget for one fee and forget the rest. The listing fee renews every time a unit sells. The transaction fee hits shipping too. Payment processing is per order but adds up. And if you ever cross the $10K threshold, Offsite Ads becomes mandatory at 12%.

On a $25 sticker pack with $3 shipping — no Offsite Ads — Etsy takes about $3.24. That's 11.5% of your $28 order. Doesn't sound like much until you're moving 200 orders a month and realize $648 went to fees you hadn't fully priced in.

📦

Physical products

Fees run 10–12% of total order for most US sellers. The listing $0.20 feels small but adds up at volume — 500 renewals/month is $100.

📄

Digital products

Same fee structure, no shipping. Etsy's 6.5% only applies to the sale price, which means cleaner margins — especially on $5–15 items.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

UK/EU sellers

Payment processing is 4% (not 3%), adding a full percentage point to every sale. At £1,000/month volume that's an extra £10 — not much, but worth factoring in.

📣

Shops over $10K

Once you cross $10,000 in annual sales, Offsite Ads enrollment is permanent at 12%. For a shop doing $3K/month, that can add $360+ in fees if ad-driven sales are common.

4 fee mistakes that quietly eat your Etsy margin

Forgetting that transaction fees apply to shipping

The 6.5% doesn't just hit your item price — it applies to the full order including what the buyer pays for shipping. A lot of sellers set shipping to cover postage exactly, then lose an extra 6.5% off the top before they've bought a label.

Pricing before knowing the Offsite Ads exposure

If your shop is under $10K/year, you can opt out of Offsite Ads. Many sellers don't know this and absorb a 15% fee on ad-driven sales they never explicitly agreed to run. Check Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads.

Treating listing fees as a one-time cost

The $0.20 fee isn't just charged when you publish. It charges again every time that listing auto-renews after a sale. A product selling 50 units/month costs $10/month in listing renewals alone — that's $120/year invisible to most sellers.

Ignoring country-specific payment processing rates

UK and EU sellers pay 4% processing instead of 3%. On a £500/month shop that's an extra £5/month, £60/year. Not catastrophic, but it means UK sellers need slightly higher prices to hit the same margin as equivalent US sellers.

Etsy's fee structure, explained clearly

1

Listing Fee — $0.20 per listing

Charged when you publish a new listing and again each time the listing renews after a sale (every 4 months if unsold). Non-refundable. On a product that sells 30 units/month, that's $6 in listing fees every month before Etsy takes anything else.

2

Transaction Fee — 6.5% of total order

Applied to item price + shipping price the buyer pays + any gift wrap fee. Does not include taxes. This is Etsy's primary revenue per sale and applies universally across all countries. On a $35 total order, that's $2.28.

3

Payment Processing Fee — varies by country

US: 3% + $0.25 per order. UK: 4% + £0.20. EU: 4% + €0.30. Australia/Canada: 3% + local flat fee. This is per order — selling 5 items in one checkout means one processing fee, not five.

4

Regulatory Operating Fee — select markets only

A small extra fee (0.5–0.9%) in certain markets like Netherlands and Singapore to cover local financial compliance costs. Most sellers won't encounter this, but it appears automatically when relevant.

5

Offsite Ads Fee — 12% or 15%, only when triggered

Only charged when a buyer clicks an Etsy-placed ad on Google, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. and purchases within 30 days. Sellers under $10K/year pay 15% and can opt out. Sellers over $10K pay 12% and cannot opt out. Calculated on item price only, not shipping.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy charge to sell something in 2026?+

For most US sellers, Etsy takes three required fees: a $0.20 listing fee when the item sells, 6.5% of the total order (item + shipping), and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. That typically adds up to 10–12% of your order total. Offsite Ads adds 12–15% on top, but only for sales Etsy's ads drove.

Does Etsy charge fees on the shipping price?+

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the entire order value — item price plus shipping. If you charge $6 shipping on a $24 item, Etsy's transaction fee is 6.5% of $30 = $1.95, not $1.56. This catches a lot of sellers off guard, especially those who price shipping to exactly cover postage.

What is Etsy's Offsite Ads fee and can I opt out?+

If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on Google, Facebook, or Pinterest and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges you 15% (under $10K/year shop) or 12% (over $10K/year). Shops under $10K can opt out via Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads. Once you cross $10K in 12-month sales, enrollment is permanent at the 12% rate.

Are Etsy fees different for digital downloads?+

The fee structure is identical — $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, payment processing. But digital products have no shipping, so the 6.5% only applies to the sale price. And there's no shipping cost eating into margin, so effective profit margins are usually higher than physical products at the same price.

How do Etsy fees compare in the UK vs. the US?+

The transaction fee (6.5%) is the same. But UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20 for payment processing instead of 3% + $0.25 in the US. UK listing fee is £0.16 instead of $0.20. The extra processing percentage means UK sellers lose a bit more per sale on identical products — worth building into pricing from the start.

What happens to Etsy fees if I give a discount or run a sale?+

Transaction fees are calculated on the discounted price the buyer actually pays, not your original listing price. So if you run a 20% off sale on a $30 item, Etsy's 6.5% applies to $24, not $30. The listing fee ($0.20) is fixed regardless.

Are Etsy fees tax deductible?+

Yes — all Etsy fees are legitimate business expenses and tax deductible in most jurisdictions. This includes listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing fees, and Offsite Ads. Download your payment account statement from Etsy for accurate records at tax time.

Can I get a refund on Etsy fees if I refund a buyer?+

If you issue a full refund within 48 hours: transaction fee (6.5%) and payment processing fee are refunded. Listing fee ($0.20) is not refunded. Offsite Ads fees are not refunded. Tip: refund within that 48-hour window to recover the larger fees.

Etsy fees for digital downloads and printables

Digital products — printables, templates, SVGs, Lightroom presets, Canva templates, patterns — use the same fee structure as physical items. The only difference: no shipping means no shipping amount for the 6.5% transaction fee to apply to, so effective margins are usually higher.

Note on Offsite Ads for digital sellers: Etsy's Offsite Ads fee applies equally to digital products. A $12 Canva template sold via an Etsy Google ad costs you $1.80 in Offsite Ads on top of the fees above — bringing total fees to ~30%. Sellers under $10K/year can opt out. Shops doing high volume on digital products often find organic SEO more sustainable than relying on ad-driven sales at this margin.

What is the Etsy listing fee?

The Etsy listing fee is $0.20 USD per listing. It is charged when you publish a new listing and again each time the listing auto-renews after a sale. Listings expire after 4 months if unsold. The listing fee applies to both physical and digital products and is non-refundable.

What is the Etsy transaction fee?

The Etsy transaction fee is 6.5% of the total order value, including the item price, the shipping amount charged to the buyer, and any gift wrap fee. It does not include sales tax. The 6.5% rate is the same across all countries.

What is Etsy's payment processing fee?

Etsy's payment processing fee varies by country. US sellers pay 3% + $0.25 per order. UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20. EU sellers pay 4% + €0.30. Australian sellers pay 3% + A$0.25 for domestic orders. The fee is charged per order, not per item.

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?

The Etsy Offsite Ads fee is charged when a buyer clicks an Etsy-placed advertisement on Google, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest and makes a purchase within 30 days. Sellers with under $10,000 in annual sales pay 15% and can opt out. Sellers with over $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out. The fee applies to item price only, not shipping.

How much does Etsy charge in total per sale?

For a typical US seller with no Offsite Ads, total Etsy fees are approximately 10–12% of the order total. This includes the $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. On a $30 item with free shipping, total fees are approximately $3.30.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full order total including the shipping amount the buyer pays. Payment processing fees also apply to the full order including shipping.

Are Etsy fees different for UK sellers?

UK sellers pay the same 6.5% transaction fee and £0.16 listing fee. The payment processing fee for UK sellers is 4% + £0.20 per order, which is higher than the US rate of 3% + $0.25.

Are there Etsy fees for digital products?

Yes. Digital products on Etsy are subject to the same fees: $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, and the applicable payment processing fee. Because digital products have no shipping, the transaction fee only applies to the item price, which means lower effective fees than physical products with shipping.
